Yoga Teacher Training

THE TRAINING
Training is divided into two parts: Theory and Practical. To become a Sarasvati Yoga Teacher you must also undertake and successfully complete three levels of training – Elementary, Certificate and Diploma.
1. THEORY
Upon registration you will be sent theory notes and Theory training consists of 14 assignments (lectures and questions) which are done at home and which cover anatomy, physiology, Sanskrit terms, breathing techniques, glands, class instruction, therapeutic exercises, nutrition, post and pre-natal exercises, backache, different forms of yoga, philosophy, scientific evaluation of yoga, concentration and meditation techniques etc.
These assignments are completed over the entire three-level course. You may begin your theory training at once.
2. FLEXIBLE PRACTICAL TRAINING
One of the main features of our courses is that because of its flexibility it is suitable for those who have many time demands on their life. There are two components to the course: Theory and Practical Training. The Theory training can be undertaken in your own time through correspondence. The practical training can be completed by either attending 3 one week intensives or 20 one day workshops and 1 intensive. A combination of Intensives and Workshops may also be used to complete your Diploma and begin your career as a Yoga teacher. It is compulsory to attend 1 intensive.
- INTENSIVES - Intensive Courses are held twice a year and are residential. This enhances the learning experience due to the positive ashram environment and also provides the opportunity to enjoy the company of like-minded people. Successful completion of three Intensives is required to attain a diploma (a minimum of one year training). The Residential Intensive is held twice a year at Swami Sarasvati Health Resort in Kenthurst, Sydney.
- WORKSHOPS - Another way to attain the Yoga Teaching Diploma is to successfully complete thirty Yoga Workshops, which are held once a month (a minimum of three years training. This is currently only offered in Sydney and Melbourne.

- Sydney -1st Saturday of each month
- Melbourne - 3rd Sunday of each month.
At each level there will be revision of theory assignments and a practical examination. The higher the level the more demanding the exam because the level of learning is increased. We want you to become the best Yoga teachers and yogis that you can be.
The 3 Levels of Practical Training
To complete your training and begin your career you must complete three levels of practical training.
Level 1: ELEMENTARY LEVEL
This is the first step of training to becoming a Sarasvati Yoga Teacher. You will be learning Swami’s method of yoga teaching. The Elementary level is suitable for all budding yoga teachers who have not yet completed a course with Swami Sarasvati.
At the Elementary level you will learn the essential foundations that will be the basis of your yoga studies. In particular you will learn about Pranayama, the endocrine system, learn to instruct traditional yoga postures and Sanskrit.
Practical component commitment: Elementary level students must attend a minimum of ten one-day workshops OR a one week Residential Yoga Intensive. 60 hours of practical training within twelve months.
You are now able to continue your training with the Certificate level.
Level 2: CERTIFICATE LEVEL
This is the second level of practical training and can only be attempted upon successful completion of the Elementary level.
This level will see you progress to more advanced learning.
At the Certificate level you will undertake training in further yoga postures, Sanskrit, therapeutic yoga, preventing illness, relaxation, food and nutrition, and childbirth. At the end of this level you will be required to confidently and successfully conduct a one hour yoga class.
Practical component commitment: Certificate students must attend a minimum of ten one-day workshops OR a one week Residential Yoga Intensive. 60 hours of practical training within twelve months.
You are now able to continue your training with the Diploma level.
Level 3: YOGA TEACHER’S DIPLOMA
Yoga teachers who have successfully completed the Elementary and Certificate levels are eligible for the Diploma course.
At this level you will undertake practical training in yoga for backache, anatomy, Sanskrit, integral yoga, scientific evaluation and meditation. At the end of this level you will be required to confidently and successfully conduct a one and a half hour yoga class.
Practical component commitment: Diploma students must attend a minimum of ten one-day workshops OR a one week Residential Yoga Intensive.
Upon graduation with a Diploma, students become fully qualified Sarasvati Yoga Society teachers and are eligible for full insurance.
These courses are available to everyone - whether you want to become a practitioner/teacher or are purely interested in personal development.

1. Joining fee $25
2. Theory: $899 or 3 installments of $333
3. Practical
Option 1 – Workshops (10 Workshops per level x 2 levels = 20 Workshops + 1 intensive) NB You must attend 1 Intensive.
- $50 per workshop – These are held the first Saturday of every month here at the retreat.
Option 2 – Intensives (1 Intensive per level x 3 levels = 3 Intensives
- $1399 per Intensive (if booked one month prior to the beginning of the course. Otherwise it is $1499 without early bird discount)
- Price includes all meals and accommodation from Monday afternoon through to
Sunday afternoon.
Option 3 – A combination of Intensives and workshops(ie.2 intensives and 10 workshops or 1 intensive and 20 workshops)

Open Days
You may of course attend a workshop as an open day to get a feel for the course before you begin your training. The workshops are held every month. This provides an opportunity for those interested in Yoga, but not sure whether they wish to teach, to see what it is all about. All yogis are welcome.
